A BLArticle® Miniseries Part 1 – “The Pre-launch”
When I’ve written a book in the past, I used to tell my friends that my books were like my children. You work hard, do the best you can to help them be successful, and then you need to step aside and let them stand on your own. For me, that meant preliminary hard work, and then your book children are on their own as they make their way through this world. Well, times are changing, and like our real kids, these book kids can benefit from a little help.
This is book number five for me, but it has been about five years since I released my last book. To say the least, things have changed! It’s astonishing how the book selling landscape has been altered over the past five years. Gone are the days when authors push their publicists for an opportunity to get on shows like the “Today Show.” Social media rules the day, and How to Change Minds is going to fight the good fight to take advantage of this new promotional landscape. That means tweeting, Facebook Fan Page announcements, LinkedIn announcements, BLArticle® miniseries, and a promotional book video?
Yes, one of the newest ways to try and market a new book is to create a video that provides an opportunity for people to learn more about the book. When I heard of this new approach to marketing, I didn’t need to be told twice. Fortunately, I was able to join forces with two very talented professionals: digital producer and editor Charlotte Ashlock from Berrett-Koehler Publishers, and online marketing strategist Wayne Marshall from Kaizen Marketing. A few months ago, we went to work and tried to create a short promotional video that would provide information, in a creative way, to help people understand more about How to Change Minds.
We’ll be posting this video on my website, YouTube Page, Facebook Fan Page, Amazon Author’s page, and Berrett-Koehler’s website… to mention a few! I think you will find this video interesting, and it will certainly give you a taste of what the book is really about. I think it might even give you a few ideas on how you can use this type of promotional video for some of the things you might be working on.
So step up, BLArticle® Nation, take a look, and see what you think! Use the buttons below to Like it, post it, Google + it, tweet it, and feel free to spread the word about it. And, please let me know what you think in the comments below. Together we can begin to teach the world, How to Change Minds.
Got the book this week Rob and am halfway through, great stuff! Best of luck with the launch!
Wow! Impressive video…
Rob, it’s been a while… well done!
I used to tell my team to “meet people where they are.” The idea was to meet folks where their concerns exist and bring them along the path to see how our product solves their concern.
You’ve pushed pass that… to say meet them there, but you have to show them their future! You’re saying the ‘urgency’ that moves folks to to a buy isn’t necessarily found in solutions offered (regardless of how innovative or strong) “where they are.”
After all complacency probably exists there as well! Rather, mind-changing urgency is more often the result of clients first envisioning the potentially devastating future impact of their currently ‘small’ concerns going untreated.
Rob, nice work! Strong video. I’m sure your book is equally brilliant… with great implementation concepts. Where do I buy my copy..:-)??

Who woulda thought our early Katie morning coffees and endless emails with huge attachments would lead to this?!! You truly are a one-of-a-kind, Rob, and I’m so thankful you gave me the opportunity to be a sounding board for your early thoughts/drafts/”rob-builds-the-brick-wall” sketches! 🙂 It was fun to see you in action. Don’t know where you get your energy from, but it’s endless and infectious. Parker and I look forward to seeing you and Ronni at the book signing in June!
Great idea, Rob – using this new ‘approach’ in helping promote your new book!
I laud you – for utilizing the resources of other folks – to assist you in ‘pulling’ this off! We like to think we ‘know it all’ – but when it comes to something as important as trying to successfully promote an important new book – we realize how important it becomes – to employ the talents of others.
In addition to being an outstanding communicator, trainer and author – I now have to add another distinction…a ‘budding’, new …..Stephen Spielberg!
We’ll see you on our T.V. show – “Communicating Today” – on Monday, June 17th – at Channel 10, Fairfax Cable T.V.! Please bring your ‘RobbleHead!
Happy Memorial Day weekend, Rob!

Yes, Rob. Watching the landscape of book publishing change so drastically over recent years has been very interesting.
Your newest book certainly looks like something to be very proud of (and worth sharing, of course). I’m looking forward to our http://wemeanbiz.tv/ interview in a few weeks, my friend. Congrats on your newest baby.
